FDT is a specialist asset inspection and maintenance business operating in the mobile telecommunications network and civil infrastructure sectors.

Asset-oriented inspection and maintenance is a predominant part of the business, and we are the market leaders in the mobile telecommunications segment.  Using our own asset information and reporting software system, Intercom, we effectively deploy a strong field-based team of inspection engineers.  They inspect, service and maintain more than 18,000 Orange and 3 Mobile telecoms sites nationwide.

In July 2007, FDT was acquired by the £425m p.a., AIM listed integrated services provider, May Gurney - a business that supplies maintenance and project services to owners of utilities, highways and rail assets. The acquisition marks a significant transit by May Gurney into the telecommunications arena and represents a broadening of its traditional service base.

In supplying services in telecommunications and civil infrastructure, FDT will draw on the May Gurney's extensive experience of managing and maintaining water, gas, rail, highway and electricity assets.

With over 4000 direct employees, nearly 3000 of whom are field based, we believe that we can offer real scale benefits: responsiveness, coverage, expertise, competence and cost effectiveness.

The Essence of what we do 

The May Gurney business model is based on us engaging directly with the owners and operators of the, often, nation-critical assets we maintain. In essence we undertake those tasks that keep assets in peak condition ensuring that our customers achieve the best performance possible from the systems and networks they own. We are also there when unforeseeable failures occur - like burst water mains, cell site power failures, gas leaks or when sewers collapse.

We use our expert knowledge of our customers' assets in recommending and implementing ways of making capital improvements. We always look to extend the operational life of assets but when system performance degradation starts to affect the way our customers' services are experienced in turn by their customers, we use our experience and knowledge to recommend value laden solutions
